Apache Junction is the located 35 miles east of Phoenix, the farthest east of communities in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Its approximately 39,000 year-round residents have good access to Sky Harbor Airport and other Phoenix attractions via the Superstition Freeway Highway 60. This suburb is close to the Superstition Wilderness and the Tonto National Forest, which provide natural beauty and outdoor activities. The population doubles in the winter due to seasonal visitors.
At the base of the Superstition Mountains, Apache Junction has an elevation of 1,750 feet. Residential neighborhoods consist of both single-family homes and retirement parks. Per capita income is about $23,000, and the median list price for homes is $141 per square foot.
