Ahwatukee Foothills is a residential community located in the southern portion of Phoenix in the foothills of South Mountain. The village is bordered by South Mountain to the north, by the Gila River Indian Community to the southwest, and by Interstate 10 to the east. Generally, Ahwatukee Foothills are associated with the East Valley.

Although some building had taken place previously, Presley Development started modern development in 1970. It quickly expanded from a retirement community into a mix of retirement and family homes and supporting light commercial uses.

Ahwatukee Foothills has a population of about 83,000. The median age is 38, and over half the residents have a college degree or greater. Over two thirds of t he houses are owner-occupied, and the current median price is almost $300,000. High school students attend Tempe schools, and elementary students attend local Kyrene District public schools.
